Baz wins the "Loyal Doggie of the Year Award". Why, you might be asking yourself, well I will most certainly tell you why.

After getting our taxes done on Friday and glad you are only going to have to pay in about $260 to state and that we are actually getting back money in federal taxes this year we decided to head to Ixtapa (a Mexican restaurant on Main Street) here in Lebanon to celebrate. After eating we then decided to take a road trip, like we used to on a whim when we first moved here, to Portland and ride the Max Train and have a bit of a stroll then head back. We headed home to let Skylar change out of his Karate Gee and picked up Baz and took off to Portland.

We got up to Portland about 9:00 PM and found a parking garage and proceeded to get out. Okay, so what I normally do is open my door, if I am driving and I was this time, hit the lock button on the door after I look to see everyone else's doors are locked and then get out and close my door right? Well this time I got out of my door, hit the lock and then walked over the help Skylar out of the car, told Baz to be a good boy while we are gone and then walked away. That's right; I left my door WIDE open in downtown Portland, Oregon. Isn't that wonderful?

None the wiser we walked away and didn't even think to look back at the car, even though Baz was still in the car. We rode the Max Train, bought a few things, walked around taking in the sites and then headed back to the parking garage. When we walked up onto the Blazer Jeff noticed the door was open and we thought the worst, that we had been robbed.

We did a quick inventory of our property and realized everything was there even the dog. I then remembered I hadn't shut my door and began to count my lucky stars that, one, no one was a thief that night, two, Baz knew to sit and wait on us. We had joked the whole drive home thinking that Baz wasnt a smart dog to figure out that the door was open and come after us. And I was actually glad he wasn't that smart and stayed. But, the joke was on us the whole time. In Baz's doggie mind he was probably calling us the stupid humans and laughing under his breath at us the whole way home.

Thinking that our dog had indeed sat the entire time we were out and about in the big city we get home and realize we have a whole slue of messages and thought, jeez we can't even take off on a whim without people trying to track us down. But, as I hit play it was clear that Baz had indeed had himself a grand ole' time. The first message said, "Your dog is running in the parking garage and appears to be lost." The second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eight,..................twentieth...........fortieth and so on. They pretty much all said the same thing as the first, with some having a different spin on the message such as "he is peeing on the trash cans", "he is running on the Max Train tracks" , he is this, he is that, blah, blah, blah.

We were shocked! Thank god he had his collar on......

Baz was lost in the big city...or was he!?

Oh! My! Gosh!

But, wait! How did he get back in the car? He was a smart dog, because he ran free for a few hours and then came back to the car all on his own. He waited on us in the last place he knew we were. He is such a loyal dog and a smart dog at that. We are so glad he is so loyal! We love him very much and he obviously loves us just as much!

The Baz look-alike

This picture came from the Johnnie Boden clothing catalog and I couldn't help but cut it out and share it. The dog is a Bernese Mountain dog, but he/she looks just like Baz. Baz is one of a kind and it's always nice to see dogs that look like him in ads.

Makes our little Baz seem special in everyway.
